Utzinger Wine

In 2015, a Swiss winemaker set out on a journey around the world to find the perfect place to start a vineyard. Along the way, he met a Tassie girl, and that's how the story of Utzinger Wines began.
Nestled in the cool climate of northern lutruwita (Tasmania) on the western side of the stunning Tamar Valley, we fell instantly for this land overlooking the winding kanamaluka (Tamar River). Our grape-growing adventure started in 2018, with five clones of Pinot Noir, six clones of Chardonnay, plus some Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah, planted at a high density of 6,500 vines per hectare with 1.8m row spacing. The rich, iron-laden topsoil, scattered with dolerite pebbles, sits over heavy clay subsoil that naturally retains water and nutrients.
Our winemaking is driven by a deep love for the planet, its creatures, and the idea of true terroir wines. We focus on fostering habitats for beneficial invertebrates and native wildlife to keep our biosystem balance, and we're proud to be a certified organic vineyard and winery. Ten percent of our land is preserved with native grasses, while another fifteen percent is planted with trees, understory, and ground cover to support local animals.
We care deeply about the environment and strive to protect it while producing the highest quality fruit. Each wine is crafted with the utmost care and minimal intervention to truly reflect its origin.
We are vignerons – our wines are grown, not made.
