Eastford Creek Vineyard

Eastford Creek WEB

Eastford Creek was established in 2018 on the Nichols family farm. On fields that previously grew brocolli, potatoes and poppies, 4 hectares of vines were planted by farm-owners Rob and Sue Nichols, their team of farm staff and helpful family. Between 2019 and 2023 a further 7 or so hectares were added, taking the total area under vine to nearly 12 hectares.

In truth, the initial vineyard area was never particularly good for cropping. It was in parts steep, rocky and boggy, and occasionally all three. A crop that only needs planting once was a good option, and vines do tend to like growing in rocky soil. Getting the posts in was hard work, though …

The vineyard is named after the water system that runs between the dams on the property. Although never recorded on any modern digital maps, an old chart marked it as the 'East Ford'. This name never excited anyone greatly until the two words were unintentionally combined and the 'creek' added and the name 'Eastford Creek' was coined.

At Eastford Creek we seek to create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. One that centres itself around the wine, but doesn't alienate non-wine people. We have built a space where serious wine tasters can sample the wares and families can come and have a drink and watch their kids play on the lawns. We are proud to have created a new option on the North West Coast and proven that we can compete with the rest of the state when it comes to the Tassie wine scene.
