Wine Tasmania is seeking a Non-Executive Director (voluntary)
Wine Tasmania represents the island’s wine producers, funded by their voluntary membership. We have a vision of building Tasmania’s reputation as a cool wine region like no other, with demand for our wine continuing to exceed current wine production. Our key role is to grow awareness of Tasmania’s wine and its producers, and to offer professional support and representation of their interests, with a focus on encouraging top quality and sustainable wine production.
125 of the island’s wine producers have chosen to be Wine Tasmania members, representing a wide range of wine business models, sizes, locations, ages, styles and personalities. We are proud that they value and choose to support us and are also proud of their individual and collective achievements.
The Tasmanian wine sector’s strong position has been strategically built over many years, with a clear and unified focus on driving a differentiated reputation, ensuring demand for Tasmanian wine exceeds wine production, and prioritising value over volume and quality over quantity. This has supported growing global demand for our wines, which attain some of the highest prices in the country, and strong growth across vineyards, wineries and wine tourism. Tasmania’s wine production may be small, producing less than 1% of Australia’s annual wine, but it contributes more than 6% of its total value.
Based on recent modelling undertaken by Wine Tasmania, the Tasmanian wine sector is forecast to quadruple in size to become the state’s most significant economic driver in the next 10-15 years, outperforming all other Tasmanian sectors. View summary of research and modelling here - https://tinyurl.com/TasmanianW.... Based on this research and the sector’s long term strategic approach, the Tasmanian Government has provided some funding support to Wine Tasmania, which includes a multi-year market development program, both export and domestic.
The anticipated growth presents an exciting opportunity for the island’s wine sector, while also necessitating careful management of many risks associated with accelerated growth. In partnership with its wine producer members, Wine Tasmania is well aware of the crucial task ahead in influencing factors to ensure the sector’s continuing success as it experiences growth and is seeking an independent Director to assist the Board’s strategic oversight and input.
The organisation is overseen by a Board of up to eight people, comprising wine producer and independent representatives, all serving in a voluntary capacity. The Board operates against a Board Charter and Skills Matrix, available here - https://tinyurl.com/WTBoardMat.... Established in 2006, Wine Tasmania is a non-profit, private company limited by guarantee, with its Constitution available here - https://tinyurl.com/WTConstitu.... Tasmania is seeking applications for an initial two year appointment, with an opportunity for this to be renewed. While Directorships are voluntary, travel costs can be reimbursed. The Board meets every 6-8 weeks for approximately three hours, alternating between in person meetings (in the north and south) and online meetings. Please apply by email to sdavies@winetasmania.net.au, outlining your skills and knowledge of wine or luxury brand marketing within Australia or export markets and your Directorship experience.
